The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
I substantially agree with this review. Overall, the movie was rather disappointing. They got many of the details right, and sometimes did well in bringing the Galaxy to life, but the big picture and the plot just weren’t there. A lot of stuff was replaced, and most of what was still recognizable had been emasculated (or ecomiculated). I’ve been listening to the original radio series and re-reading the books recently, so the differences really stood out.
The graphics for the Hitchhiker’s Guide entries were good, and nearly the only things in the movie that made me laugh.
The actress that played Trillian looked and sounded way too much like an AI professor that I couldn’t stand. They didn’t mention that Trillian was an astrophysicist; it seemed like her part had been dumbed down.
The part of the bulldozer that was about to demolish Arthur Dent’s house was, for some reason, played by a front-end loader.
Overall, it’s worth seeing, as long as you lower your expectations in advance.
