Vacation

We are back from our vacation in Michigan. No car trouble this time, thank God. We took both cars, and our new AAA cards, just in case.

We took a short swim in Lake Superior between Marquette and Munising. The water temperature was in the low 40’s, I think. Not shiveringly cold really, just the kind of cold that makes your bones ache. But better than being bitten by the black flies on the beach.

We came back with nice, painful sunburns from an afternoon at Lake Michigan. Doctored ourselves with vinegar and lots of aloe gel. My legs got the worst of it, so I had to wear a dress for a couple days, and kind of hobble around.

I’ve always hated prepay-only gas pumps, and we ran into a couple of them on the way back. I always buy gas with cold, hard cash, so prepay means I have to go in to the cashier twice, and why should I trust them with my money if they won’t trust me with their gas? If drive-aways are that big of a problem, put in more security cameras, and prosecute vigorously, or hire someone to stand out there and keep an eye on things. Don’t annoy your honest customers.

The funniest part of the trip was when we were both singing along to “Since U Been Gone” at the top of our lungs, riding around in Northern Lower Michigan. Both the Kelly Clarkson and Ted Leo versions.
