Homeschooling

This anti-homeschooling article on the NEA web site is getting ripped on by various education bloggers (see here, here, and here).
MFH and I are planning to homeschool our (future) children.
So, why would some parents assume they know enough about every academic subject to home-school their children? You would think that they might leave this — […]

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

MFH and I got it yesterday, and we both read it. According to my calculations, he was reading at speeds of up to 142 pages per hour. My average was 104 pages per hour; I started a little before 7 pm, and finished it at 1 am.
I thought it was pretty good. […]

Laughing at NOW

Here are the Resolutions from the latest NOW National Conference, and I am succumbing to the temptation to ridicule them.
WHEREAS, throughout its history, the National Organization for Women (NOW) has used both traditional and nontraditional means to achieve full equality for women, including women’s access to safe, legal abortion and birth control….
Access to abortion doesn’t […]

Recent denim projects

I had a bunch of old blue jeans that I cut up and reused.

Project 2: re-cover Bible. My Bible […]

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

I will not be seeing this movie. I’ve read the book many, many times, and my visualization of it is far too firmly established in my head for me to watch anyone else’s rendition without major cognitive convulsions. Whose bright idea was it to cast Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka? He’s far […]

Here we go again…

… with the Minnesota Women’s Press columnists. She does have one thing right: we need to spend more on education; her ignorance of economics is appalling. Subsidized health care and child care and “living wages” and so on for everyone is a nice idea, but how are you going to pay for […]

Proposal done!

Posted: Friday, July 15th, 2005 @ 3:01 pm in General | Comments Off

I was working at my research proposal until 4 am, and it was due at 5, but I got it done!
The best part about working so late is that now I only have to work two hours today to finish my week.

Waiting

Today is a day of waiting and hope, as we are hoping to hear back from the company that MFH interviewed with last week. This period of unemployment has gone on almost as long as a pregnancy. Bah. Meanwhile, the proposal that I have been working on for weeks is due on […]
