Gas Prices vs. Milk Prices

Gas around here is $2.60 to $2.70 per gallon, but it’s still cheaper than milk. At least I think it is; we only use powdered milk from the discount store, which comes out at about $1.40 per gallon (when mixed; I usually just dump it straight into my tea or cocoa or whatever). Powdered milk from the regular grocery store is about $2.20 per gallon. (Now I’m trying to picture powdered gasoline!) Last time I looked, months ago, prices for normal milk were around $2.85 per gallon.

I will admit that reconstituted powdered milk is not very good with cereal. But given the per-pound price of cereal, we don’t eat very much of it anyway.

Incidentally, $3 for a 16-ounce latte or whatever (I don’t drink coffee) works out to $24 per gallon. Be glad you don’t have to fill up your car at Starbucks!
