State Fair

MFH and I went to the State Fair on Saturday. The weather was great, not hot, not cold, not too sunny. The crowds weren’t too bad until later in the day. This is the third year that I’ve gone to the State Fair.

Sadly, the “I Belong in the Kitchen” T-shirt that MFH ordered for me didn’t arrive until today.

Favorite food: Cream Puff, from the stand near Heritage Square. A two-inch layer of whipped cream! Get it while it’s still legal.

Pleasant surprise: very few people smoking. Has the cigarette “health impact fee” gone into effect? I was happy because I absolutely loathe the smell.

This year we went on the Sky Glider instead of the Space Needle. It was a nice, long ride for the $2.75, although it took me about half of it to decide that I could trust the engineers, and stop worrying that our seat would fall off the cable. I’m not afraid of heights; just afraid of falling from them.

Of course we had to stop and see the political Crop Art. MFH got pictures. Of course we had to laugh that the Air America booth was right in front of the sheep barn.

MFH introduced me to St. Paul, of Fraters Libertas, and Swiftee. MFH told them that Zatera Ul had an anti-feminism focus. Oh, thanks. I write about other things too; it’s just that it’s so fun and easy to take potshots at feminist ideology.

My favorite Fine Arts artwork, and the one that I voted for, was the railroad-spike bathtub. I would pay up to $20 to have one of those for my yard.

Speaking of the Fine Arts exhibits, why is the type on the labels for the artwork so small? It was incredibly annoying to have to get within two feet to read the titles, especially with the number of people present. Often the title is an integral part of the artwork, in that it legitimizes what may be perfectly random paint splooshings, by declaring that the work is actually about something.

We left by 8 pm. It was crowded, and we had been walking all day, and my mixed Viking and Hun ancestry was starting to show, because I was itching for a big club or battle axe, to clear a path for myself through the hordes of people. Also I was wishing for deflector shields. Crowds are hard on us introverts.
