“You get better at what you do”

A favorite quote of MFH’s; said by one of his friends.

Lately I’ve been getting better at struggling through hymns on the piano. Our house came with a (rather old) piano, so lately I’ve been sitting down for a couple minutes here and there (while waiting for water to boil, usually) and working my way through a hymn or two. I’ve made some progress: I’ve gotten faster at reading the music, and better at finding the right keys without looking down. It’s so much easier not having to switch back and forth between looking at the hymnbook and looking at the keyboard.

Also, I’ve been getting back into the swing of cooking. For almost the past year, MFH has been doing the cooking, because he’s been unemployed, not to mention the better cook and the more finicky eater. Since he started his temporary work last week, with long days and a long commute home, I’ve taken it over, but I still feel out of practice. We have a stack of Quick Cooking magazines that he got at a yard sale; the recipes are easy and fast, although they use more convenience foods than I would. No ads, and all the recipes are submitted by readers. I made an oregano chicken recipe from it earlier this week, and it turned out really good.
