Rendezvous
We spent most of this weekend playing Voyageurs at the North West Company Fur Post Fall Rendezvous re-enactment in Pine City. We decided to go only a few days ahead of time, and skipped the first evening and morning.
The best part was getting to see MFH in his cute Voyageur costume.
Our tent ended up way in the back corner, not far from the extroverts–the ones who were still singing around the campfire long after the rest of the encampment had retired. Luckily, I had a book, Who Stole Feminism? by Christina Hoff Sommers, and MFH had a flashlight.
We spent some time whittling firewood scraps: I made a crochet hook, and MFH started a spoon. It was nice to have something to do with my hands. I should learn how to make sashes; they are finger-woven yarn, I think, and shouldn’t be too hard.
MFH had another go in the Cat and Mouse tournament. Cat and Mouse is a two-person game, which requires two stumps or pieces of log, and a rope. The stumps are eight or ten feet apart, and each person squats on a stump and takes an end of the rope. The object is to get your opponent to fall off their stump. No touching the ground, or wrapping the rope around your hand. MFH won his first round, then lost to the guy who always wins the tournament.
