The Apprentice

We are big Apprentice watchers. We were going to watch the Martha Stewart Apprentice on Wednesday, but everything after the first glimpse of the Pastel Empire was pre-empted by local thunderstorm and tornado coverage.

So we just watched the Donald Trump one last night. A new twist this time is that the project manager of the winning team only gets an exemption if the team approves. An old twist is going back to men vs. women teams.

I thought the race to the helicopter at the beginning was a little unfair to the women, because of their shoes. On the other hand, I was cringing later on as the women’s team was all talking at once. I guess it’s one way for everyone to get to express their feelings, before getting down to real work, but if everyone’s talking, no one is listening, so why bother? The guys were at least able to quiet down and listen to their leader, even if they didn’t like him.

Melissa was one who talked far too much. It was very gratifying to see her get fired. “I don’t work well with women” is not something you should say on any job interview. Especially in front of Carolyn. Melissa had the biggest case of Ego that I have seen in a while; she said that she thought other women were intimidated by her brains and her beauty. I can’t speak for women in general; what I didn’t like about her was that she had a hard time shutting up, kept repeating the same phrases over and over, and was more concerned with expressing her feelings than anything else, including building a winning team or getting hired by Donald Trump.

I admire how Carolyn saves her words for the right moment, then delivers them in a succinct verbal POW! One of the best parts of the Apprentice is seeing her eloquent facial expressions when someone says or does something stupid.
