This morning I read notes for an old speech that Miers had given in 1993. Captain Ed said this speech was the straw that pushed him off the fence, toward opposing her nomination. Certainly it is poorly written, even for something that was to be delivered as a speech. I had to restrain myself from printing it out and going through it with a red pen. Also, it did not exactly reflect conservative values. I, too, went from neutral on the nomination to fairly opposed. I’ve been looking forward to the hearings, but expecting that she would get shot down in the Senate.

Now Miers has withdrawn herself.

It will be interesting to see who Bush nominates next.
