Projects

I keep a list of projects around the house that I want to do. For some reason, Saturday and yesterday (which I took off work) were the perfect days to polish off a large number of them off–I can’t believe how much I got done.

One thing I did was to assess how my craft area is working out. As I learned from Organizing Yourself, the questions to ask are, “What’s working?” and “What’s not working?”. I found that it was working better than I thought, but I didn’t really use the workbench as a workbench–I sit at my desk or on the floor, or go downstairs. Also, where I had my sewing machine wasn’t working very well–tiny work surface, and I was squeezing my chair between the sewing machine and the workbench. So: move sewing machine to workbench, and move most of the things on the workbench to where the sewing machine was, which is easier to reach from the floor. Another thing was that I needed more book space for tall craft books. I thought of building a small bookshelf, but then I decided to steal one–the old orange crate in the entry, which was used for a place to store hats and mittens and to set things on. To replace it I built a shelf with much more horizontal surface, from scrap lumber. I’m hoping it will tempt MFH to leave his things in the entry, instead of bringing them all the way to the dining room table, but that probably won’t happen while the weather is cold, since the entry is unheated.

The orange crate bookshelf displaced a small table, which migrated over to MFH’s side of the bed as a place to set books (badly needed). Our bed is high, and he was just dropping them over the edge before.

I straightened up our workshop and garage, and took care of several things that had been waiting to be repaired, including a chair.

I finished knitting a sweater, and even blocked it.
