They Sent This to the Wrong House

Today I got a wireless (cell phone) offer in the mail, from a company called “Working Assets Wireless”. Their gimmick is that they kick 1% of the charges over to such friendly progressive groups as Planned Parenthood, Greenpeace, and the ACLU, and on top of that they will give you 10 free minutes a month to call your elected officials. They warn that Those Other Phone Companies give boatloads of money to the Evil Ignorant Right-Wing Extremist Republicans.

Well, I’ve found my laugh for the day. They’ve named at least two organizations that are on my Top 10 List of Organizations that I Wouldn’t Mind Seeing Go Down in Flames.

This part I found especially hilarious:

So every month your phone bill serves as a kind of progressive newsletter, alerting you to conservative legislation that’s sneaking through Congress or corporate interest groups plotting an end-run of your rights.

As if I would want a cell phone anyway. I hate talking (aloud), and I want to discourage others from having much dependence on my availability.

Probably they got my name and address from my Mother Earth News subscription; I read it for the do-it-yourself articles and ignore the we-must-save-the-planet stuff. I built their plywood one-person hot tub project, a few years back, and it turned out great.
