Pregnancy Update
The morning sickness is waning. I can eat pizza again, in moderation. Overall, I feel pretty good, and am happy to be pregnant. Have been getting out to walk a little bit more–spent too much time cooped up indoors this winter.
We’ve found a midwife, and are planning a home birth with cautious optimism. I don’t want to go to the hospital unless I really have to. I’ve written before about how easily medical situations can make me faint, and how they generally put me at far less than my strongest. Not the place I want to be while I’m doing the hardest work of my life. Also, I know that the last thing I’m going to want to do when I’m in labor is to get in the car and go to an unfamiliar place full of strangers trying to “help”. (Especially if there’s no labor tub there.) Still, I don’t have the confidence for an unassisted birth, so we are using a midwife.
The midwife was able to hear the fetal heartbeat with a fetoscope. She has a Doppler, but I’m wary of ultrasound, and I’d want to know the frequency and power ahead of time, to work out the physics and convince myself that it’s safe enough. We don’t want to know the sex of the baby anyway, until he or she arrives. It’d be like X-raying your Christmas presents on December 21st.
