Equal Pay Day

It’s Equal Pay Day–when feminists complain that women don’t make as much as men, and blame it all on sexism. The Independent Women’s Forum offers a different look (more here and here) at the “wage gap”, and how much of it comes from the different choices that men and women make.

For myself, I don’t have anything to complain about. In my present job, I’m making far more than the minimum that I (and we) need to live on (the excess is going toward paying off student loans at this point). Six years of living comfortably on a graduate school stipend was good practice for livelong frugal living. I’m making more than MFH, with far less effort, and nearly as much as my dad did at the peak of his career. The main reason for this is education.

I could no doubt make more if I liked to talk, or travel, or live somewhere without real winters. But it’s that choice thing again.

Also, I should note that I’ve enjoyed greater job security than a co-worker who aggressively negotiated his salary, and then failed to deliver that level of performance.
