Out and About

Today I spent some time sewing diapers, and then went along with MFH, who had a dentist appointment to get three fillings. While he was getting drilled and filled, I went to the antique store (the Lindstrom Antique Mall). I found a small oak tool chest that I was seriously leaning toward buying, but then I took a closer look at the price tag and saw that it didn’t say $75, it said 375. So, no.

Afterward, we went to his mom’s yard sale, and dropped his car off for repairs (at the dealership, ick–$90/hour for labor). Now we’ve found out that the car needs two major transfusions of cash, rather than one. Ugh. Am I surprised? No, because the car has always been this way–the only parts that break are the ones that are the most labor-intensive to fix, and they make sure to break on a fairly regular schedule. The car has over 200,000 miles on it, but it hasn’t been cheap to keep it going–MFH seems to visualize the costs in terms of the cameras and accessories that he could have bought. I told MFH, “Subaru should have a program where after you buy ten major repairs, you get a new car free.” MFH: “They could have a punch card!”
