MFH put way more thought into the ring than I ever did. He chose a channel-set ring so the stones wouldn’t snag on things or get knocked off while I was playing in the workshop. He chose a combination of emeralds and diamonds, because he knew that my favorite color is emerald green. He thought white gold would go better with my skin tone. He managed to infer/guess my exact ring size. He knew that I was practical and wouldn’t mind economizing on the ring. He figured that getting engaged sooner would let us get married sooner. Most impressively, he managed to keep the whole thing a secret until he proposed to me at the zoo.

The end result is a ring that is very special to me, while costing more than an order of magnitude less than many engagement rings.
