Ezzo Week

TulipGirl has been blogging Ezzo Week 2006 this week, see here, here, here, and here. Ezzo is a self-styled authority on parenting, and has written a number of books, including On Becoming Babywise. There are plenty of things wrong with his books, from bad theology to bad breastfeeding advice, and woe to the infants who do not take well to the “routines” (which generally turn into rigid schedules) that Ezzo dictates as “God’s way”. I’ve skimmed his books enough to know that he’s not the kind of person I would trust to take care of my child, not for even a minute. TulipGirl and many others have worked hard to bring to light the problems with the books and with Ezzo’s ministry, Growing Families International.

See www.ezzo.info for more information, and for stories of families that did trust him and use his method, for a while. So many sad stories of mothers letting their hungry (and sometimes starving) babies cry and cry, just for the sake of the schedule, and of babies that learn they can’t trust their parents to meet their needs. It’s not just babies, either–his materials for parenting older children are just as bad.
