Christmas
We had a good Christmas. On Christmas Eve, I was able to hear half of the sermon before OLC and I had to go to the nursery for a feeding. (Well, to finish a feeding; we were sitting behind a big guy and able to stealth feed on one side.) We had dinner with a coworker of mine who is pregnant and planning a home birth and had lots of questions for us.
Christmas morning, I made waffles, and we opened our presents. I gave OLC a baby sign language book: Let’s Sign! Every Baby’s Guide to Communicating with Grownups. (The baby sign language books for grownups all looked too long and involved and boring. This one is a colorful children’s book that explains fifty basic signs in a non-overwhelming way.) MFH’s main present from me this year was an ok to go buy himself a wah pedal for his guitar, which he did before Christmas. MFH got me a really cool wood model trebuchet kit, that I had noticed while we were in Peapods looking for a present for OLC. Plus we independently got each other Tinkertoys from Target; the pieces are considerably larger than the old ones, though.
Then we gave OLC a bath, and drove up to Grandma’s house. After a substantial meal, more presents to open. She gave me several recorders (!)–including a plastic “treble” (!!), which may be equivalent to my alto recorder, and a wood sopranino (the smallest one, pretty rare–!!!). Plus a book of recorder music that includes fairly comprehensive instruction for the different recorders and fingering systems. While Grandma got her baby time, I started putting my trebuchet model together, and MFH helped his friend from grade school with his web page. Later, I cut MFH’s hair (first haircut since OLC was born).
The trip home was fun, we made three stops to feed/comfort OLC. Sometimes she does fine in the car, and sometimes she doesn’t.
