Dentist
Dentist appointment–ugh. I go to MFH’s old dentist, so it is a bit of a drive up there, but OLC’s grandma is close by and willing to watch her. This was more or less the first time that I left our baby with someone other than MFH, except for the time in the hospital (still working on that part of the birth story).
But having a baby does complicate the process. For one thing, OLC slept in until it was almost time to go, and then she didn’t want to nurse before we left. Then, when we got to Grandma’s house, OLC was excited to see her Grandma, so she didn’t want to nurse then, either. Well, ok, she nursed several times during the night. I got to my appointment almost on time.
But I still had to wait 25 minutes before the hygienist was ready. *eye roll* Enough time to leaf through 1.5 magazines, while thinking about how hungry OLC probably was getting. Poor Grandma. Then I had a new hygienist, one who seemed to desperately want to be liked. She spent a lot of time on chitchat and on patient education about the Importance of Healthy Gums. Argh! Just get it over with–I need to get back to my baby!
But no, it just dragged on. And on and on. Toward the end, everyone in the office seemed to be moving at half-speed. I was thinking, “Man, this place needs more testosterone.” By which I mostly meant some healthy competition to keep things moving efficiently. I got out of there more than 25 minutes later than I should have.
It turned out that Grandma was able to keep OLC entertained and happy for almost the whole time, but by the time I got back, she was one sad and hungry baby. I should have just brought her and Grandma with me.
