Sling Recall
I heard about this recall of some Infantino baby slings a while back, through The Lactivist. It’s being recalled because a plastic slider on the sling’s strap could break and let the whole thing fall, baby and all. We had one of these, so I was glad to hear about the recall. The return process was pretty painless, and the replacement sling arrived yesterday, along with a small baby toy. Good customer service.
The new one is a slightly different design; it has an additional slider thing for the strap to go through, that helps to keep it secure. We found with the old sling that the strap would tend to slide a bit, so that the baby would be hanging too low after a while. We haven’t been using slings much lately anyway, because OLC likes to be upright and able to look around, which is easier to do with the wrap.
As a sling, it’s a decent beginner sling: there are straps inside for securing the baby, which also guide you in positioning the baby in the sling, and there are no strap rings to have to worry about. (Our ring sling seems to always end up with the rings digging into my shoulder.)
Another carrier that we use all the time is OLC’s pouch sling. She outgrew the pouch part fairly quickly, but now it works ok as a butt sling (though I always keep my arm around her so she doesn’t fall backward or down through it).
A couple of times, I even tried carrying her in her infant car seat, but whoa is that heavy if you’re not used to it.
