I had some fake-wood molding (formerly part of a TV cabinet) sitting around; shaped like a small picture frame, but with two openings. I had planned to use it to frame some of my collage art. A while back, I tried painting it. I think I did a layer of white, and then sponged on a layer of light blue. But I didn’t like the light colors for framing, so then I gave it a full coat of brighter blue. After that, it spent a year or so stuffed behind my craft cabinet.

This weekend, I came across a tube of green acrylic paint that MFH had unloaded on me, and brought it up to my craft space to put it with the rest of my paint. Somehow that frame came flying out of its hiding place, begging to be re-painted with the green. So I did, using a piece of flannel since I am short on paintbrushes, and voila! it came out as a thin green overcoat of paint, with the blue showing through, and I like the effect very, very much.

Additionally, in my recent decluttering I had found some pictures that I had saved from an old calender, scenes from Bible stories with lots of green and blue and fine details: voila again! Pictures to put in the frame. (Actually, I just taped them to the back of it with masking tape.)

Then, where to hang it? Most of the decor here (curtains and rugs, at least) is in reds and purples. Except the window at the top of the stairs, which has a blue curtain (that originally was a huge blue muumuu). So I hung it at the top of the stairs, to keep the lone blue curtain company.

I just love discovering how little pieces of junk and materials like this can come together in a pleasing way.
