Busy Weekend

MFH worked another long day on Saturday, which meant that I didn’t get any baby-free time to catch up on my job. We lose money when that happens, because I am paid by the hour, while he’s not.

His car is still in the shop, so we are driving a new Subaru loaner. I am old-fashioned and I don’t like the keyless entry; this car doesn’t even have keyholes for the passenger door and back hatch. Then when I used the remote to open it, it beeped and blinked at me, which is just annoying. It’s the automotive equivalent of a building with no stairs, only elevators, and the elevators all have grating electronic voices to tell you what floor you’re at and that you’re pressing the wrong button.

Sunday morning we were on nursery patrol. Two of us, six children under two (one newborn), and the girl that was supposed to be helping us was away at Bible camp. One of the other dads came and helped, and we survived. But we definitely needed more arms–OLC and the toddlers were on their own most of the time, and one infant kind of got parked in the activity bouncer. The upside of working in the nursery is that it motivates me to continue avoiding daycare for OLC. I have no idea how one person can care for four infants at once. But it’s tempting when I’m way behind on work, and there’s a center just down the block with openings.

In the afternoon, I lined a little knitted bag that I made last year sometime, and finished it. So nice to be able to concentrate on a project, and actually get it done.

In the evening we had Bible study, where we meet for a potluck meal, and are working through a book about keeping the Sabbath. It is not something that I look forward to, because it’s another scheduled Sunday activity (biweekly), but I’m always glad that I went.

I had thought about using Sunday to catch up on work, but now I’m glad that I rested instead. OLC is actually sleeping in this morning, and I got some real work done for my job.
