Stumbles
Saturday we were actually starting to feel better, after a week of two of being sick and miserable, and we were getting things done around the house. We took a break to go out to eat, and then on the way back to the car I twisted my ankle, fell, and dropped OLC. On her head. So, off to the ER we went. She was looking mostly normal by the time we got there, except for a big bump on her forehead and her nose scraped up a bit. She even smiled at the funny fish in the waiting room aquarium. The doctor thought a little teeny bit of morphine would help OLC hold still for a CAT scan, but it totally backfired: the position they held her in to give her the shot was the same position they wanted her to lie still in in the CAT scan machine ten minutes later. OLC hates to be restrained on her back anyway, probably thanks to past shots and blood draws. So they put her down on the CAT scanner bed, and she thought that she was about to get another shot. Plus the radiology tech was just a bundle of nervous energy, definitely not a calming personality. By some miracle (and some distracting antics by MFH wearing a lead apron) the first scan was good enough to use. Then, after all that, OLC was a little slow and woozy, and we had the fun of trying to separate the effects of the head injury from the effects of the morphine. The CAT scan came back fine.
So there went the whole afternoon, and all our energy. OLC is just fine now, she apparently inherited her mother’s hard head. I seem to be coming down with something else, though.
