50,072 words
I just completed my National Novel Writing Month novel, on time. Last year, I tried it, but only made it about 5,000 words in–I was just too busy with a job and a 1-year-old. Two or three years ago, I completed a NaNoWriMo novel. This one builds on my previous two stories. It was a little different, though: I wrote it straight through, without re-reading or revising anything until the very end. So there are still some consistency issues to iron out. Also, more amusingly, some unintentional repetition: five separate attempts by dragons to carry off one of the three main characters. Another thing was that I was quite sick with a cold in the middle of the month, and forgot to carry one of the minor characters along in the story. I didn’t write a consistent amount every day; I did a big spurt every few days. Yesterday I wrote about 7,000 words (and would have kept right on, except we had an appointment to keep). Today I wrote about 1500 words, and that was only because today is the last day.
Now I need to rebuild my craft space. Since I’ve been busy writing all month, I’ve been letting OLC run loose in it, and she has pretty well trashed my little oasis of order and beauty.
