Thrift stores under CPSIA

The Consumer Product Safety Commission is exempting thrift stores (and other resellers) from having to lead test all children’s products. But…they still will be held in violation of the law if they sell anything containing lead over the limit. So they will be selling children’s items at their own risk (such as a $100,000 fine). That’s probably all the CPSC can do for now–they didn’t write the crappy CPSIA law, Congress did, and it clearly applies to all sales of children’s products. Ultimately, any changes to this law are going to have to come through Congress.
