Delays
The CPSC decided to delay some of the testing and certification requirements under the CPSIA. That’s good news, but the penalties for violating the lead limits aren’t going to be delayed. I’ve been working on and off on a letter to my Congresspeople, but it’s been difficult to avoid writing either a rant or a treatise.
The digital TV transition is also delayed, for reasons I don’t understand. I did see an editorial in Star Tribune about how terrible it would be for anyone to be left behind and unable to watch TV. Never mind that we rarely watch TV, and so getting the converter box is very low on the priority list. Don’t wait for us to be ready! (For emergencies, we have radios.)
Ironic that all the years of warning about the digital TV transition weren’t enough, yet it has been much, much more publicized than the CPSIA. Nobody’s been doing a “Get Your Small Business Ready for the CPSIA” public awareness campaign.
