Local coverage
Gotta love the free local paper. In this case, the Lakeshore Weekly News, which covers some of the western Twin Cities suburbs.
The February 10 edition had a good article: Our county, Hennepin County (which includes Minneapolis), is putting in a BIG array of solar panels (528 of them) at the County Public Works Facility. Cost: over $900,000. Energy production: 80kW. Projected utility savings: $15,000/year. Greenhouse gas reduction: over 2000 tons.
Best quote (by a senior environmentalist from the county) in the article: “It’s not going to be a money making proposition for the county as far as financial payback in the short term.” No, they’re doing this out of the goodness of their hearts for the sake of the planet.
Hint to county: If you want to reduce greenhouse gases, try sequestering carbon dioxide instead of dollars.
They’re planning on putting up a wind turbine, too.
