Gift

The other day, I was praying a little at the beginning of the day, and kind of got directed toward Lady Lydia’s, where she has been doing a whole series on dresses she has sewn. Then came a little push to spend some time sewing.

I had a project in mind, some scrap denim to sew together as a a patchwork, and then overdye. The gift part is that TLG took three medium-length naps by himself, so I actually had just enough time to whip up a whole skirt (dresses just aren’t practical while I’m nursing). I pulled out a pattern just to approximate the shape, and the rest I made up as I went. Not neat, precise sewing at all, but I got the thing done!

The embarrassing part is that when I sewed the front of the skirt to the back, I sewed the whole piece on backwards; one of those “humbling mistakes” that always seem to sneak in somewhere. The skirt is intended for a work skirt, and I think the overdye will make the mistake less obvious, so I am just going to leave it.

If we have any of last year’s raspberries in the freezer, I will try overdying with those. Otherwise, some of the cherries we had last week were making pretty purple stains all over the place….
