State Fair and Other Stuff

Posted: Saturday, August 30th, 2008 @ 11:04 am in Parenthood, Projects, Foofy, General | Comments Off

The State Fair was fun; we went with MFH’s mom. The day started with a Minor Crisis: in the morning, we loaded OLC into the car in her pajamas, and I threw an outfit into her diaper bag. Well, we got to the fair, and I changed her and started to dress […]

More about the compost bin

Posted: Tuesday, June 10th, 2008 @ 3:48 pm in Projects, Foofy, General | Comments Off

I got so tired from building the compost bin because I did all the sawing, drilling, and screw-driving by hand. Not that it takes any great strength to do any of these operations with hand tools; even drilling holes with a hand drill is surprisingly easy. It was the cumulative effort over a […]

Compost

Posted: Friday, June 6th, 2008 @ 4:08 pm in Projects, Foofy, General | Comments Off

I spent all day yesterday building a new compost bin, with the help of my young assistant. It is mostly finished, just needs front slide-in panels and maybe another row of mesh around the top. I moved all the compost into it this morning. Today I am very tired.

Candyland

Posted: Monday, February 18th, 2008 @ 8:22 am in Parenthood, Projects, Foofy, General | Comments Off

These days, my life is like a big game of Candyland: I have a little marker for each of the projects that I’m working on, and I can only move each of them ahead a square or two at a time.

OLC got her first eight teeth months ago, and then no new ones for […]

Advent

Posted: Monday, December 3rd, 2007 @ 7:10 pm in Projects, Foofy, General | Comments Off

I made an Advent calendar for us, using some things from the local surplus store and Walmart, plus some things I scavenged from around the house. I made a list of elements of the Christmas story, along with some of Jesus’ titles, and found a little object to represent each one. I improvised […]

Sick, sick, sick

Posted: Thursday, November 1st, 2007 @ 11:56 am in Parenthood, Projects, Foofy, General | Comments Off

We are all sick, have been fighting off a virus or two since last week. MFH did a half day of work yesterday, but has been home other than that. Yesterday was fun, because he and I both woke up with voices pitched about half an octave lower than normal. I could […]

Busy Weekend

Posted: Monday, August 6th, 2007 @ 9:30 am in Parenthood, Projects, General | Comments Off

MFH worked another long day on Saturday, which meant that I didn’t get any baby-free time to catch up on my job. We lose money when that happens, because I am paid by the hour, while he’s not.
His car is still in the shop, so we are driving a new Subaru loaner. […]

Latest (completed) project

Posted: Monday, July 16th, 2007 @ 11:38 am in Projects, General | Comments Off

I had some fake-wood molding (formerly part of a TV cabinet) sitting around; shaped like a small picture frame, but with two openings. I had planned to use it to frame some of my collage art. A while back, I tried painting it. I think I did a layer of white, and […]

Raspberries!

Posted: Monday, July 2nd, 2007 @ 9:23 am in Projects, General | Comments Off

We are in the thick of raspberry season around here. In the spring, MFH spent some time putting compost around the raspberry bushes, and they are doing very well this year. OLC has been helping me pick them. We picked a quart’s worth on Saturday alone.
Last year, I made a lot of […]

Recent project

I had a stack of pretty notepaper that I never used, because it was just too nice for the scribble-and-toss notes that I make on that size of paper. But I found a tutorial on binding paper into little books, so I made the whole stack into a new schedule book for myself. […]
